Please note that due to the large number of people migrating to Google Apps ITS staff members cannot be available to migrate you. We have provided the directions below to assist you in your migration. A step-by-step guide is provided for each step of your migration. These guides are animated, annotated screen shots showing everything you need to do to successfully migrate.
Please read and follow these instructions carefully. Almost all reported problems have been a result of not following these instructions.
1. Use the Migration Page to create your Google Apps for UNC Asheville account.- Please be sure to log in to your Google account as directed on the final step of the migration page. This "initializes" your account and confirms that your new Google Apps account is ready to accept migration data.

2. Configure your UWC account to set forwarding. This step insures that other UWC users's emails to you will be delivered to your Google Inbox. - Log in to the UWC here : http://uwc.unca.edu
- Go to Options > Mail > Settings and check Enable forwarding.
- Go to Options > Mail > Settings and check Do not leave a copy on server.
- In the Email Address: field type <your username>@mail.unca.edu, then click the Add button.
- Confirm that <your username>@mail.unca.edu appears in the Mail Forwarding list: field, then click the Save button in the lower right corner of the screen.
- Log out of the UWC.
3. Enable IMAP access to your new UNC Asheville Google Mail account. Instructions on that step can be found here : http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=77695
4. Once IMAP has been enabled on your account you must configure Pegasus to access your UNC Asheville Google Mail account. - Select Tools > Internet Options... from the menu in Pegasus Mail.
- Make sure the General tab is selected.
- Enter your email address "username@unca.edu" under My Internet e-mail address is:.
- Go to the Sending (SMTP) tab.
- Click Add....
- Now click New....
- Make sure the General tab is selected.
- Type "Google Apps" under Enter a name for this definition.
- Enter "smtp.gmail.com" under Server host name:.
- Go to the Security tab.
- Make sure Via direct SSL connect is selected under Use SSL/TLS security on this connection.
- Click Change.
- Make sure Login to the SMTP server using the following details: is selected under SMTP Authentication.
- Type your "username@unca.edu" under Username:.
- Enter your Google account password under Password:.
- Go back to the General tab.
- Verify Pegasus Mail has entered 465 under Server TCP/IP port:. If it has not, make that change manually.
- Click OK.
- Highlight the new Google Apps server under Available SMTP definitions.
- Click Select.
- Make sure Send mail at once without placing in queue is checked (unless you prefer having your mail delivered in batches, of course).
- Click OK.
- Select Tools | IMAP Profiles... from the menu.
- Click New....
- Make sure the Connection tab is active.
- Type "Google Apps" under Enter a name for this definition.
- Enter "imap.gmail.com" under IMAP Server address:.
- Type your "username@unca.edu" under Login name:.
- Put your Google Account password into the Password: field.
- Go to the Settings tab.
- Make sure This server supports folders within folders is checked.
- Select Delete them immediately and do not keep a safety copy is selected under When deleting messages from folders in this mailbox....
- Note that deleting a message from any Gmail folder in Pegasus Mail will archive the message (if you delete in the Inbox folder) or remove the label (if you delete in a folder corresponding to a Gmail label). To truly delete a message, move it to the [Gmail]/Trash folder.
- Go to the Performance tab.
- Make sure Keep a utility connection open when this definition is active is checked underConnection Management.
- Do not enable this if you use a slow dial-up connection.
- Go to the Security tab.
- Make sure Via direct SSL connect is selected under Use SSL/TLS security on this connection -.
- Click Change.
- Go back to the Connection tab.
- Verify Pegasus Mail has entered 993 under Server port:. If it has not, make that change yourself.
- Click OK.
- Highlight Gmail under Existing Gmail profiles.
- Click Connect.
- Click Done.
