Please note that due to the large number of people migrating to Google Apps ITS staff members cannot be available to migrate you. We have provided the directions below to assist you in your migration. A step-by-step guide is provided for each step of your migration. These guides are animated, annotated screen shots showing everything you need to do to successfully migrate.
Please read and follow these instructions carefully. Almost all reported problems have been a result of not following these instructions.
1. Use the Migration Page to create your Google Apps for UNC Asheville account. - Please be sure to log in to your Google account as directed on the final step of the migration page. This "initializes" your account and confirms that your new Google Apps account is ready to accept migration data.

2. Configure your UWC account to set forwarding. This step insures that other UWC users's emails to you will be delivered to your Google Inbox. - Log in to the UWC here : http://uwc.unca.edu
- Go to Options > Mail > Settings and check Enable forwarding.
- Go to Options > Mail > Settings and check Do not leave a copy on server.
- In the Email Address: field type <your username>@mail.unca.edu, then click the Add button.
- Confirm that <your username>@mail.unca.edu appears in the Mail Forwarding list: field, then click the Save button in the lower right corner of the screen.
- Log out of the UWC.
3. The next step is to enable IMAP access to your new UNC Asheville Google Mail account. Instructions on that step can be found here : http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=77695
4. Once IMAP has been enabled on your account you must configure Eudora to access your UNC Asheville Google Mail account. - Select Tools > Personalities from the menu in Eudora.
- Click in the personalities window with the right mouse button.
- Select New... from the context menu.
- Choose Skip directly to advanced account setup.
- Click Finish.
- Type "Google Apps" under Personality Name:.
- Type your name under Real Name:.
- Type your "username@unca.edu" under Email Address:.
- Type your "username@unca.edu" under User Name:.
- Type "smtp.gmail.com" under SMTP Server:.
- Make sure Required, Alternate Port is selected under Secure Sockets when Sending.
- Go to the Incoming Mail tab.
- Type "imap.gmail.com" under Server:.
- Make sure IMAP is selected under Configuration:.
- Make sure Required, Alternate Port is the Secure Sockets when Receiving choice.
- Click OK.
- Type your UNC Asheville Google Account password under Password:.
- Click OK.
5. Once Eudora has been configured you can begin to move mail from your old UWC account and local Eudora files up to your new UNC Asheville Google Mail account. Unfortunately there is no simple or elegant way to do this in Eudora; if you have many folders and lots of email this could take a considerable amount of time and effort. - Within Eudora you will have to create new mailboxes (termed Labels in Google) under your Google Apps account with the same names as the mailboxes in your UWC account and local files.
- Once the mailboxes have been created, you can drag and drop emails from your UWC account / local file mailboxes to your Google Apps account mailboxes.
- Here is more information on Google Labels : http://mail.google.com/support/bin/topic.py?hl=en&topic=12845
Unfortunately, Eudora does not provide a mechanism for exporting the Address Book, therefore you will have to populate your Google Account Contacts through use or by manually copying the data for each address.
